Education and Advocacy Grants Program
ELCA World Hunger works to end domestic and international hunger by addressing the root causes of poverty. Through a comprehensive and compassionate program that uses multiple strategies, ELCA World Hunger addresses the complex causes of hunger and poverty around the world and close to home. We assist communities through relief, development, organizing,
education, and advocacy.
The ELCA World Hunger Education and Advocacy Grants Program funds activities or core operations of organizations that work for justice by using a variety of education and advocacy strategies to address the root causes and solutions of hunger. To determine whether you are eligible to apply for a World Hunger Education and Advocacy Grant, please review the appropriate Grant Information Sheet (below) for the regular cycle or off cycle, depending on when you wish to apply.
NOTE: If your organization seeks funding for work in relief, development, or community organizing, you may need to apply for a
Domestic Hunger Grant. Generally organizations may apply for EITHER an Education and Advocacy Grant OR a Domestic Hunger Grant but not both for the same project.
Two Cycles for Education and Advocacy Grants
Education and Advocacy grants are awarded in the spring for regular-cycle grants and between June and January for off-cycle grants.
Regular Cycle
This is the process that most organizations will follow and constitutes the majority of funds available for these grants. The application process typically begins in early January and ends in February. Grants are then reviewed with decision letters and checks mailed out in April and May. Applications for the 2011 regular-cycle process will be available January 4, 2011, and due February 21, 2011.
Off CycleA small percentage of funds may become available beginning in June to allow flexibility for unanticipated, last-minute needs when the regular grants cycle has concluded. This application process runs from June 1 to December 1. Applications for off-cycle grants are reviewed as needed, based on actual remaining grant dollars. [
NOTE: At this time, 2010 off-cycle grants are unavailable. Please contact
Erin Cummisford with any questions.]
