ELCA's response:
The ELCA has an expansive network of global companions through which it engages in relief and rehabilitation following major international disasters. Our church’s ongoing relationships – both Lutheran and ecumenical – enable us to engage swiftly and effectively to communities in need, as they recover from disasters like the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. We are working very closely with the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Lutheran World Federation, and Church World Service in providing direct assistance to survivors of this disaster .
Your great generosity means that this church, our partners and our companions in Japan will be able to carry out all the work they have planned. Our plans are fully funded. There are not enough words to express our gratitude for your generosity. Thank you.
For more detailed information on your church’s response please read the following four situation reports:

Give:
As we all know, disasters can strike without warning, and for this reason, ELCA Disaster Response maintains a general fund that can be put to work immediately, wherever it’s needed. Undesignated gifts to ELCA Disaster Response will make it possible for our response to future disasters to be as fast and effective as our response was in Japan.
