Dedication of Quilts, Kits, Layettes and Other Relief Projects

Prayer for the Dedication of Quilts, Kits, and Layettes

The quilts, kits, and layettes may be placed in front of the group.

L: Let us pray. O Lord our God, maker of all things, you have blessed us with so many gifts—a good eye for color, the ability to make fine stitches, the skills to develop ever-new and exciting patterns. Now we offer the fruits of our labors, the quilts and kits we have made, to you.

A: We dedicate these quilts and kits to your service, trusting that your love will go wherever each item is sent, making it more than just a piece of material, a collection of items—making each piece we have created an expression of love.

L: There is no way for us to imagine the power and effect an act of love can have on a person’s life—how you can use something as small as a quilt, a layette, a health kit to radiate your love from us to the world.

A: May these be used in your service and become blessings for all those who receive them.

L: Lord, we know that all we possess comes from your loving hand. Give us grace to honor you with all of our being: draw our hearts to you, guide our minds, fill our imaginations, control our wills, so that we may be wholly yours.

A: Use us as you will, always to your glory and the welfare of your people. Amen.

Prayer for the Dedication of Relief Projects

This prayer may be used any time a group has prepared projects or gathered money in support of those needing aid or assistance. The projects or money may be placed in front of the group.

L: In the name of our Lord—Creator, Savior, and Spirit—who calls us to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God.

A: Amen.

L: To you we lift our voices in praise and thanksgiving for the many blessings you have given us.

A: To you we renew our Christian promise to help those in need—to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, clothe the naked, comfort the weary and outcast, welcome the stranger, and be a loving neighbor to all people of the earth.

L: We humbly dedicate our gifts of love to you.

A: We ask that you bless the fruits of our labor [and the work of ELCA Disaster Response and Lutheran World Relief], that together we may minister to our neighbors in need.

L: To you be all glory and honor, now and forever, through Jesus Christ.

A: Amen.
